THE BORSAY CASTLE

The building was built at the turn of the century in the 1900s. Since 1930 it was used by the Borsay family, who were famous wine merchants. Here they bottled wines from the grape they produced, led by János Neumann, who was probably their manager. The building can be seen on their wine label. Following the deprivatisation after the war, the headquarters and offices of the Mineral Mine Company were located in the building, and from 1963 it was treated by the Municipal Council. First it was used as an elementary school day-care center with a kitchen, a dining room and later 4 classrooms and 2 apartments were created in it. In 2005, the municipality built its new kitchen, dining room thus the day-care home function ceased to exist.

In 2015 the building of Mád Educational and Interactive Knowledge Center started. The purpose of educational and interactive learning center is to provide home for short-term training courses, advanced trainings in the field of wine culture and winery, and also specialized trainings. The experience center enables the knowledge of the growing generation to be enriched with wine culture (class trips, wine-making courses, etc.). Through its community spaces, the center can become an ideal venue for regional and international wine markets and professional events. In addition, the Center for Educational and Interactive Experience also focuses on the physiological, medical and biological effects of the wines of Tokaj region (especially Furmint), building on the knowledge base and research infrastructure of Debrecen University, Faculty of Public Health.
