Mád Circle has undertaken the responsibility of working out the necessary regulations for presenting the individual terroirs. There has been a product specification of Tokaj PDO since Hungary joined the European Union. However, in itself it does not give the opportunity to highlight the uniqueness within the wine region. Thus, further local regulation was necessary because the same character certainly cannot be presented everywhere, and also because the special character of the terroir only shows itself with yield control (which increases the price of the wine). The wine region is too small to compete with “the mass”, but too big for prices to be uniform.
Members of the Circle have applied the restrictions to their own vineyards for more than ten years. Mád Circle finalised the envisioned and used rules by the beginning of 2017 and presented it before the 2100 members of the Mád Wine Community. After consultation with the community, the regulation was accepted unanimously by members. For this to be entered finally into the Tokaj Product Specification as a supplementary rule, the other wine communities of the wine region must pass opinion, and only then can it be accepted by the Tokaj Wine Region’s Council of Wine Communities. Currently the “socialisation” of the suggestion is happening after which it will pass before the Board for their decision.
